Varun Chakravarthy’s Stunning Transformation: From ₹600 to ₹25,000/Day A Powerful Tale That Shocked R Ashwin

Chakravarthy’s Journey: From Film Sets to Cricket Glory

Team India cricketer Chakravarthy has revealed a jaw-dropping transformation in his career — one that saw his daily earnings jump from just ₹600 to over ₹25,000. In a candid conversation with senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Varun shared details about his early life struggles and how far he has come.

Started as a Junior Artist in Movies

Before becoming a cricket star, Varun worked as a junior artist in Tamil movies. During the shooting of the 2014 cricket-based film Jeeva, he earned a mere ₹600 per day.

“I signed up as a junior artist with the hope of becoming an assistant director,” Varun said.
“It paid ₹600 per day, and I worked on the set for 20 days.”

Architect, Musician, and Interior Designer

Varun’s journey wasn’t straightforward. After completing his architecture degree:

  • He worked for ₹14,000–₹18,000 per month as an architect.
  • Tried his luck as a musician, but didn’t succeed.
  • Launched an interior design business, which collapsed due to Cyclone Vardha.

Cricket Brought the Real Breakthrough

After multiple setbacks, Varun turned to cricket — first at a club level, then gradually rising through Tamil Nadu’s domestic ranks. He made his India debut at age 29, a rarity in Indian cricket.

Today, as a contracted player:

  • He earns $300 per day (~₹25,653) in match allowances.
  • This marks a 4,200% increase from his film days.

What R Ashwin Said

Ashwin, who interviewed Varun, praised his perseverance:

“This story is nothing short of a miracle. From ₹600 a day to India’s playing XI — it shows grit.”

Inspirational Lesson for Youth

Varun’s journey proves that failure isn’t the end — it’s often a redirection. His story is a powerful reminder that:

  • Skills can be transferable
  • Setbacks can lead to breakthroughs
  • It’s never too late to start again
